Introduction

This case study deals with the public transportation system of the city of Bielefeld, in the northwest of Germany.
Distance Bielefeld to University of Applied Sciences Dortmund: 96.7 km.
With a population of about 330,000 inhabitants it is the 18th greatest city in Germany.

Initial situation of the case study:
A visitor is standing in front of a ticket machine and is checking out the possibilities of forwarding within the city.
The person is able to use all different vehicles belonging to the public transport system.

The public transport is organized and served by moBiel, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Bielefeld.
The transport net consists of StadtBus (bus), NachtBus (at weekend or before public holiday) and
StadtBahn (trams which are driving over- and underground).
StadtBus and StadtBahn are in service until 1 am, daily. On weekends and public holidays
their service is reduced.
Additionally the NachtBus is serving the most frequented stations within the whole city on
weekends and before public holidays, starting in downtown Bielefeld from 1 until 5 am.
